It is one of the most popular works of classical music, often referred to as the “world’s first pop song,” unofficially considered Austria’s second national anthem, and always the highlight of the Vienna Philharmonic’s New Year’s Concert. The Danube, one of the most famous rivers in Europe, flows through ten countries on its journey. The magic of its unique natural landscapes has always been a source of inspiration for poetry, fairy tales, myths, painting, and music.
